This week marks one year since Desh died. I am typically in the Christmas spirit but this year it took a lot of eye rolling and irritability to even get the tree up. He died right near that tree. But it’s the tree that I have and it gives off great light (it’s pink). I don’t want to take a break or time off for the holidays. I want to keep working and live my regular life. But this Thursday, on the actual anniversary, I’ll break the routine and stroll the path of grief.
Before I lost anyone close to me, I wasn’t able to understand what the anniversary of the loss could feel like. The day can be meaningful but so many other things mark that time. I talked about it often but light and weather are the two biggest grief markers for me. I remember the sun coming out the day Desh died and how quiet our street was. It was a peaceful moment before a winter storm blew through.
I’m thankful for grief. It’s taught me to be patient with myself. It’s helped me become more self aware. It’s made me more present.
I hope you can feel present the next few weeks. I’ll be back in your inboxes on January 7th (I take the last two Sundays off). Thanks for being here in 2023.

Oh Also! is a weekly email that feels like a lunch date with a friend that runs late because you keep thinking of more things to talk about. No affiliate links or sponsored content, ever.
It's great to be in your inboxes after three weeks off. I really enjoyed re-thinking this newsletter and all that it can be. If you've been getting my emails for awhile, I don't think you'll feel like it's that different. And if you're new(er), hey! I wanted something new and fresh to re-engage myself, honestly. I think this evolved format will let me share more of me. And expand more on the things that I link out to! I hope it feels like a friend date where we only have an hour but we try to...
I've had a few of you ask me to share how I write this email. I've been writing this email every Sunday since December 2019. This month marks four years! My method is very simple. I write the email in a Google doc first so that I can search for anything. The Google doc is 304 pages long at this point. Throughout the week I save things on Instagram or in Pocket. On Saturday or Sunday, I also read though newsletters that I subscribe to and will include a link from there if it's worth sharing....
Journaling (or writing in a diary) is something I did pretty consistently from grade school until college. Then I stopped for quite a while. I consistently journaled and read every morning during the first year of the pandemic. And then I stopped again. I pay to use Reflect and have often considered journaling again but on my laptop where I can type as fast as my brain moves through thoughts. I write slowly now. Which makes sense because I don’t write a lot by hand. But maybe the slowing of...
